One of his many projects includes some concrete vases. In this project Sergey Makhno mixes glass and concrete beautifully.

Joanne Woffinden at RCA Graduate Show 2012 London

Highlight from the  RCA Graduate Show 2012 London - Concrete artist Joanne Woffinden's work worth to mention.


I loved this item / she was the definitely one of the most mature ceramic works at the Royal College of Arts Graduate show in London today.

Influenced by subtle tensions, which lie within the space,  light and shadow of architectural form,  she intends to create a relationship between surfaces and  forms,   which  can  alter our  perception  of space.

Her current work synthesises influences taken from contemporary  architecture  and  the  underlying currents, which unfold Baroque structures.

Through  the  use  of  the  curve,  she  has explored ways  to  create  a  spatial  flow  between planes and  lines,   which  disrupt  and  work  with  simple geometry.    She would  like  to  invite  the  viewer  to  engage with space in new ways. 

Concrete armchair - Nina Saunders

found in Sculpture.co.uk, Nina Saunder's armchair looks like a fluffy real armchair with cushions. Great outdoor furniture.

Nina Saunders was born in Odense, Denmark in 1958 and trained at Central St Martin's, London. The artist creates a series of sculptures which are both funny and quirky, yet at the same time quiet and contemplative, from a range of medium including concrete, leather, textiles and bronze.

Concrete lamps - Annika Nordenskiold

Annika Nordenskiöld lives and works in Sweden. She has graduated from Berghs School of Communication and Konstfack – University college of arts, crafts and design. Annika’s work is mainly paintings, but also sculpture and works of art in different materials. Her work has been exhibited in Finland, Germany, Japan, Sweden and USA.


I don't know how these lamps look like when switched on in the dark but they are a nice example of painted concrete furniture.

Rainer Mutsch

Modular outdoor furniture.
Winner of the Good Design Award 2010 this furniture allows the user to move freely on the objects and to choose an individual seating position according to his or her individual taste.

Marila Dardot - Concrete letters

Marila Dardos is a Brazilian artist and he created a couple of concrete letters with the title of "Because the words are everywhere".

If you can lift them, you can create your own concrete word.

Yoan Capote - Concrete sculptures

Yoan Capote is a Cuban artist.

He merges human organs with inanimate objects, rearranges the human body and reinvents the purpose of everyday life: the sculpture Nostalgia, which features an ordinary suitcase unzipped to reveal a wall of bricks, can be seen as a metaphor for nomadism and its limits, the wall of bricks standing for our own impediments we all carry with us wherever we go.

This work concentrates on the polemics of gender (male, female homosexuality etc…) applied to a design exercise about the representation of gender. The intention of the artist was to find a three-dimensional shape that in two different positions represents the male and female breast. The two concrete pieces are exactly the same sculptural shape; in different positions. The furniture has both female and male views.

Concrete speakers - Shmuel Linski

A final project from Shenkar college: concrete speakers. Shmuel Linski created these intersting pieces.


"The Horn speaker technology that I used in my project, works just great with the concrete, even without the need of padding the speakers from the inside.
The Driver, which is located in the top part of the speaker, moves the air through a pipe (96cm long) and into a horn shaped mouth in the bottom of the speaker. The weight (56kg) makes the speakers very solid, and turns these speakers into a unique product, invoking a sense of nirvana for concrete lovers and audiophiles."

Remember the concrete espresso machine? It was Linski too...

Omer Arbel - chair

Another chair today made of concrete.
Omer Arbel, the Vancouver-based designer of the lauded 1.2 Shelf, has used ductile concrete—usually an infrastructural material—in its first application as furniture. Arbel’s 8.0 Chair—the inaugural piece in what the designer anticipates will be a series of outdoor pieces—has the pallor of a sunbaked Nevada salt flat and seems to project in all directions. “The concrete is very, very, very, very strong,” Arbel says. “It allows me to create this incredibly thin, cantilevering form.’

Mircea Cantor

Moloko Magazine is featuring Mircea Cantor today - and this should be a special post for us too to showcase his work.

Especially that one of the blog's contributor, Ferenc Csurgai was very (very) closely involved in the process of creating the huge Christmas presents as a collaborator. And yes...they are really huge. They are very actual at the end of the year in the festive season indeed.

Of course these are all made of concrete.

Anish Kapoor - Concrete Piping Machine

Anish Kapoor is a celebrity and there's no need to introduce him. He has several works exhibited around London and wins ever growing number of prizes each year.

However I didn't know that last September he had an exhibition at the Royal Academy.

He created a machine (well, it's a pipe, connected to a computer) that creates formed material. The result is this endless spaghetti (let's consider it a spaghetti for now) which covered the whole floor of the gallery.

Royal Academy went further than calling it spaghetti:
[...] "using a computer programme similar to those employed by architects, a technician translates them into instructions that guide the machine. The process is simple: liquid concrete is shovelled into a hopper, from where it travels along a plastic pipe to be extruded in long, intestinal coils or short, turd-like lengths that accumulate to make up different forms; so far there are pyramids, nests, boats, triangles, ovals, lattices, spirals, beds, cubes and cylinders. The texture of some is dry and crumbly, while others appear liquid; some are dark grey, others spotted with white blobs of the polystyrene added to lessen the weight."

Grupo Bondi - concrete ottoman chair

This piece is exhibited at the London Design festival this year, 2010.

The Argentine pavilion at 100% Design will showcase the work of eight designers, including Grupo Bondi’s Concrete bench – a cast concrete ottoman, for indoor or outdoor use.

 Gruop Bondi also have some other interesting pieces that look like fluffy cushions however they are all made of concrete. Great concepts of garden furniture.

These concrete and glass sculptures were made by Anna Baroti. The title was "Herpes" and was created as a graduate work.

Ildiko Eros

Pair in the water on the beach is created in Pecs, Institute of Arts last year as a graduate work by Ildiko Eros.

Hadash Shaham - concrete jewellery (again)

It seems that creating concrete accessories is not that rare as I tought before. The material is ideal for wearing it all the time due to its durable and strong qualities.

In only two weeks time this is the second link I bump into that features designer rings, necklaces all made of concrete.

Hadash Shaham  designs pieces of contemporary jewelry formed by simple geometric shapes. The  2008 concrete collection is reflective of Hadas' personal style and environmental space combining elements from new and old worlds.

"The concrete collection is based on the combination of old and new, gentle and harsh, hollow and full. It is about opposites and using them to create a whole object, just like dealing with real life. Formally, the collection is inspired by architectural elements around her, created with many items, each used in different subject which she found interesting."

The objects are created with the use of concrete combined with silver or gold and sometimes leather.

Earrings made of concrete - I was just wondering about their weight... but possibly i would risk this for a couple of hours because they look simply gorgeous.

The pieces are not all grey at all. Green, black and white coloured concrete is used widely and also simple (grey) material is combined with gold and silver  which creates a tasteful and fine finish.

Concrete Interiors

Aboday is an Indonesian desgin and interior agency.
Their modern home interior is created with concrete elements and plain-colour palette to provide a homogeneous environment in an open house.
There is even an inner slide connecting two levels. And a fishpond. Amazing.

 Aboday's philosophy is to create specific buildings that harmoniously connected to their context and function.
